There is little doubt that this group of Newcastle United players are playing for Rafa Benitez.

Not just him of course, they all pretty much seem to take a pride in playing for the club and fanbase as well.

However, it is the manager who they work with day in day out and who dictates the play and formation.

The team/squad smart enough to know that in the process he is making them all better players.

As we are now at Friday 22 March, it is only 51 days now until the final match of the NUFC boss’ current three year contract.

Uncertainty abounds as we still have no idea as to whether Rafa Benitez will be staying or not.

For many of us, the heart says yes but the head says no.

We know that Rafa wants to stay, that he sees the potential of the club and there is a mutual love and respect with the fanbase.

Sadly, we also know that transfer window after transfer window, season after season, Mike Ashley has misled and undermined the manager.

Even this very latest transfer window, yes Newcastle signed Miguel Almiron for what will eventually be a club transfer record (£16m plus £5m in later add-ons) but in the middle of a relegation battle, the Spaniard once again was left sort.

Needing some new signings as soon as possible in the window, instead it was the very final day when Almiron arrived.

It is Rafa’s expertise that has taken Newcastle to the brink of safety, not help from above.

If/when the manager leaves, then there will be so many other consequences.

I foresee these three Newcastle United players quickly following him out of the door.

Salomon Rondon

A pivotal figure.

Arguable Newcastle’s player of the season and somebody who is key to Rafa staying.

If Ashley won’t even allow this permanent signing then why would Benitez be staying?

Jamaal Lascelles

Plenty of clubs have been sniffing around these past two seasons.

It might not be a Champions League club that comes in for him but if Rafa Benitez does leave, then I think other clubs will show their hand.

Lascelles probably feeling he has done his bit in hanging around up to this point.

Martin Dubravka

His agents have already said that top Premier League clubs are interested, as well as some in the Bundesliga, as well as Juventus.

Coming to the top level late, at 30 years old I think Rafa leaving would push the keeper over the edge.

Why waste time at a club with no ambition when he has limited years to achieve his dreams?
