Latest Shocking Entertainment News: John Stamos Pays Tribute to 'General Hospital' Star Anthony Geary After Death
John Stamos is remembering his former General Hospital costar Anthony Geary.
“I am deeply saddened by the passing of my friend and former costar, Tony Geary,” Stamos, 62, wrote via Instagram on Monday, December 15.
Geary died at age 78 on Sunday, December 14, in the Netherlands, three days after undergoing an operation, his husband, Claudio Gama, confirmed to TV Insider on Monday.
“It was a shock for me and our families and our friends,” Gama said in a statement. “For more than 30 years, Tony has been my friend, my companion, my husband.”

Geary’s death came on the same day that Rob Reiner and wife Michele Singer Reiner were found dead in their home in Brentwood, Los Angeles. The couple’s 32-year-old son, Nick Reiner, was arrested on a murder charge following their deaths, Us Weekly confirmed on Monday.
Stamos continued his tribute to Geary by honoring Rob, writing, “Coming on the heels of the tragic deaths of Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele, whom I admired immensely — this feels like a heartbreaking moment for so many of us who grew up watching and learning from these giants of our craft.”
The Full House alum then recalled joining the cast of General Hospital at 19 years old.
“Tony could not have been kinder or more welcoming. At that age, everything feels big. He made it feel safe,” Stamos wrote. “I was mesmerized by his acting. I would stay after my scenes were finished just to watch him work — not because I had to, but because I wanted to learn. Watching Tony was like watching someone rewrite the rules in real time. He changed the face of daytime television. And in very real ways, he changed my life.”
Stamos played Blackie Parrish on the soap opera from 1982 to 1984. The role, which was his first major acting gig, earned him a nomination for a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series.
Meanwhile, Geary joined the cast of GH as Luke Spencer in 1978. He initially left the show in 1984 but later returned in 1993 and remained in his role until 2015. Geary, who earned eight Daytime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for his work as Luke, appeared as the character for the final time in 2017.
Stamos wrote that he admired how “real” Geary was.

“He never fell into the traps or tricks that can happen when you’re doing the volume needed for an hour show every day,” the Big Shot star continued. “He attacked every character and every script with honesty, intelligence, and fearlessness. There was no autopilot with Tony — ever. He was truly one of a kind.”
Sharing photos from his Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony, which Geary attended, Stamos continued, “When he showed up for me when I got a star on the Walk of Fame, it meant the world to me. That was Tony. He showed up — quietly and generously.”
Stamos concluded, “I wrote about him in my book [If You Would Have Told Me] because he is part of my foundation as an actor. He will always be part of my work. The way he committed, the way he listened, the way he elevated everyone around him — I carry that with me still. Thank you, Tony, for your brilliance, your kindness, and for setting the bar so impossibly high. You really stood out. Rest easy, my friend.”
