Nicole Kidman briefly shared how she deals with life’s ups and downs shortly before news broke of her ongoing divorce from Keith Urban.
“I put it in my work. That’s the beauty of what I do,” Kidman, 58, told Vogue in a new cover story conducted ahead of her divorce filing. “There’s a place for some of this to explode, implode, process [and] discover.”
Kidman further told the fashion magazine that she prefers tackling film and TV projects outside of her comfort zone.
“Taking a risk is what I’ve always done,” the Big Little Lies actress said. “You get back up and you try again and you learn. I still go back to shoestring indie filmmaking because it was where I was born, but then I can move into a big studio [movie] like Practical Magic, where you go, ‘OK!’ But that has an enormous amount of pressure and responsibility, and how do you carry that load?”

Kidman has a packed slate of upcoming acting projects, including the highly anticipated Practical Magic 2 with Sandra Bullock, that comes amid a difficult time in her personal life. Us Weekly confirmed late last month that Kidman and Urban, 57, separated after 19 years of marriage.
Kidman filed for divorce on September 30, citing irreconcilable differences, and requested to be the primary residential parent of the now-exes’ two daughters: Sunday, 17, and Faith, 14.
While neither Kidman nor Urban have publicly addressed their separation, a source recently told Us that the twosome were “quietly separated for a while.”
“[They] needed time to figure out if they were going to actually divorce,” the insider told Us. “She had faith they could work it out. This wasn’t Nicole’s decision, and she is devastated. Her trust was lost, and it was too far gone.”
According to the insider, Kidman was “trying to get them to work on their marriage” before she eventually filed to dissolve their union.
“She didn’t tell many friends what was really going on with them and was holding this in for months,” the source said, noting Kidman and Urban were living “separate lives.”

The insider added, “Nicole and Keith were not on the same page. … They are moving in two different directions, and their worlds are not overlapping as much as they once did. The distance between them had grown more obvious recently.”
No matter what, Kidman revealed to Vogue that she’s found solace in her “ride-or-die friendships” and by journaling.
“I’m contemplating writing, but there’s a wealth of things I am compiling in my little psyche,” she told the outlet. “[It would be] maybe a necessity. So much to say and so little time to say it. About death and life and joy and grief and loss and sex and why we’re here and what is truth and is truth even necessary.”
She went on to muse, “Are we human? Are there parallel universes? What is the future? Do we even care? Are we living in a dream? What is reality? Where are we going? Why do I keep working? Why stop? You’ll have to tie me down, tie me up!”
