Nick Offerman is revealing how he makes a decades-long marriage to Megan Mullally last.
“She’s an exquisite goddess. She’s the funniest person I’ve ever met – and I’ve met Mel Brooks and John Cleese,” The Last of Us star, 55, told The Guardian in an interview published on Thursday, September 25. “She dances, she sings. She’s a dramatic and comedic genius.”
“She has astonishing taste – with a few obvious lapses. We’ll come to blows over who left the cap off the toothpaste,” he continued. “But I’m very grateful that after 25 years, she is still choosing me. The worst part is, in the same way that when I back up a truck and my dad is sitting on my shoulder, when I’m performing, especially singing, Megan is very much on my shoulder. When you’re married to the Lionel Messi of performing, it can be tough to keep your shots on goal.”
Offerman and Mullally first met in 2000, when they starred in The Evidence Room Theatre Company’s Los Angeles production of the play The Berlin Circle.
“We had a lot of scenes together, and I started thinking, ‘Wait a minute, he’s funny,’ Mullally told BuzzFeed in 2013 of meeting her future husband. “And then I started thinking, ‘Wait a minute, is he cute?’ What’s happening?’”

Offerman later appeared on Mullally’s series Will & Grace, and the pair announced their engagement in 2002. They married in a private ceremony at their home on September 20, 2003.
Mullally famously went on to guest star on Parks and Recreation as Tammy Swanson, the crazy ex-wife to Offerman’s Ron Swanson.
“The craziest thing about her dangerous sexuality was that, in Parks and Recreation, I was known for keeping a straight face,” Offerman told The Guardian of his wife’s recurring character. “Chris Pratt would come out of left field and make me giggle, but I enjoy deadpan humor, so generally, nobody could make me laugh. Megan would walk into the room and I would be done because, by definition, she knows what buttons to push. All our scenes are her using her sexuality as a weapon against me, and I lost that battle long, long ago.”
This is far from the first time the Parks and Rec actor has gushed about his better half. In 2013, Offerman opened up to The A.V. Club about his relationship with his wife,
“We fell in love, and before long, we could just tell that we wanted to stay together and make a life together,” he recalled at the time. “We wanted to declare to each other and our friends and family that we were in it to win it.”
While speaking exclusively to Us Weekly in 2025, Offerman spoke about how the duo have made their relationship work. “There are a few things — listening and swallowing one’s ego is probably right at the top of the list,” the Parks and Recreation alum shared. “And having a sense of humor.”

“We’ve been together for about 25 years and the key is we always make each other laugh,” Offerman continued. “At the moment, especially living in Los Angeles, life is very bleak, surrounded by tragedy and heavy things [amid the wildfire destruction], and we have to be able to take things lightly and carry each other through the hard times.”
