Britney Spears’ team is setting the record straight on her night out at a Los Angeles restaurant after a fellow diner detailed his experience sitting near the singer.

“This is completely blown out of proportion. Britney was enjoying a quiet dinner with her assistant and bodyguard,” a rep for Spears, 44, said in a statement to Us Weekly on Thursday, May 14. “She was simply telling the story about how her dog was barking at the neighbors.”

The statement continued, “At no point did she put anyone in danger with a knife. She was cutting her hamburger in half. This constant attack on everything that she does and this is exactly what happened 20 years ago when the media tried to depict Britney as a bad person. This is ridiculous, and it needs to stop now.”

On Wednesday, May 13, journalist Jeff Sneider went viral on X after sharing his alleged experience eating a meal near the “Oops!… I Did It Again” singer.

“I am having dinner next to Britney Spears right now and it’s a WILD experience,” Sneider claimed via X at the time. “She just left and everyone in the restaurant turned and started talking about it. An INSANE dining experience. One diner feared for her life. This is not a joke…”

According to TMZ, Spears enjoyed an evening out with friends at Blue Dog Tavern in Sherman Oaks, California. One witness alleged to the publication that the singer was raising her voice, screaming and even barking at times during the meal.

Spears’ public outing comes after Us confirmed on April 30 that the mother of two had checked out of a treatment facility after entering earlier that month.

Days later, the singer took a plea deal in her DUI case during a May 4 court hearing.

Spears pleaded guilty to a lesser charge known as “wet reckless driving” in exchange for her misdemeanor count of driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol being dismissed at the arraignment, which her attorney attended on her behalf.

In a since-deleted Instagram post, Spears offered a glimpse into her state of mind while celebrating Mother’s Day weekend.

“Went to the pet store with my kids and look at what a beautiful baby snake this is,” Spears wrote via Instagram on Saturday, May 9. “Snakes are symbolic of good health, higher consciousness, and pure luck…I’m so damn thankful to my friends and so many new beautiful people I have met through my spiritual journey… all a blessing in disguise. I still have to learn how to be kind to myself and the way I speak to myself… It’s a never ending journey and sometimes I just stop, look up and say wow God I think that was you and smile on!!!!”
