Darius Rucker and fiancée Emily Deahl might be keeping things low-key with their upcoming wedding.

Rucker, 59, was congratulated on his recent engagement while appearing on the Monday, November 10, episode of the Today show. As a photo from the romantic Myrtle Beach proposal was shown on screen, Rucker gushed over his relationship with Deahl, 33.

“[We’ve] been together for a couple years, and she’s an amazing human being,” the musician said.

Rucker admitted that the couple “don’t really have any plans” for their nuptials yet. “We’re not gonna plan, we’re just gonna get married [and] have a big party somewhere,” he teased, extending an invitation to Today’s Al Roker, Craig Melvin and Dylan Dreyer.

Rucker announced the pair’s engagement via Instagram on October 8, sharing photos of himself on one knee. “Thank you for showing me a level of happiness I have never known. The day I met you I knew I didn’t want to go another one without you. Now I don’t have to,” he wrote in the caption.

The couple kept their relationship relatively private before sharing their romantic milestone. In September, Rucker gave fans a glimpse of a getaway to Las Vegas. “Wizard of Oz at @spherevegas with my love & my boys. 1000/10!!!!!” he captioned a selfie with Deahl.

Just before his proposal made headlines, Rucker was behind the camera to capture Deahl’s out-of-body experience at a Lady Gaga concert. “When your man fully supports your love for someone else,” she teased in the October video, which showed her singing and dancing along in the crowd.

Rucker was previously married to Beth Leonard, with whom he shares daughter Daniela, 24, and son Jack, 21, from 2000 to 2020. (Rucker also shares daughter Carolyn, 30, with ex Elizabeth Ann Phillips.)

“Beth and I would like to share that after much reflection we have made the decision to consciously uncouple,” read a statement from the former couple shared via Instagram announcing their split. “We remain close friends and parenting partners and continue to be each other’s biggest cheerleaders.”

The message continued, “Our priority will always be our beautiful family. We have so much love in our hearts for each other and will continue to encourage growth and expansion in one other. Please be kind as we take on this journey, and we thank you for your love and support always.”

Years after the pair called it quits, Rucker opened up about learning to be “a lot more forgiving” with himself and others.

“You have to, because life goes on,” he said on Apple Music’s “Today’s Country Radio With Kelleigh Bannen” in 2023. “Your kids are still your kids, and you have a life, and you try to make the best of it. Like I always say, [Beth’s] a saint, she’s an amazing human being, and she’s a great mom. And we get through life.”

Rucker reflected on the lessons he took away from the divorce process, adding, “I learned how there’s help out there for people. Being raised the way I was and where I was … and in the Black community especially, that’s frowned upon a lot, too. But I learned that there’s a lot of people out there that’ll talk to you, that’ll help you a lot.”
