Latest Shocking Entertainment News: Did Kim Kardashian Pass the Bar Exam? Inside Her Journey to Become a Lawyer

Kim Kardashian, esquire? The reality TV personality has been open about her journey to become a lawyer after registering with the California State Bar to study law in 2018.

Kardashian spoke publicly about her plans for the first time in her April 2019 Vogue cover story, explaining she blocked out 18 hours of supervised study alongside lawyers Jessica Jackson and Erin Haney each week.

“First year of law school you have to cover three subjects: criminal law, torts, and contracts,” she told the magazine. “To me, torts is the most confusing, contracts the most boring, and crim law I can do in my sleep. Took my first test, I got a 100. Super easy for me. The reading is what really gets me. It’s so time-consuming. The concepts I grasp in two seconds.”

At the time, the Keeping Up With the Kardashians star’s goal was to take the bar in 2022. However, she has to pass the First-Year Law Students’ Examination a.k.a. the “baby bar” before she can continue her education. During a May 2021 episode of her family’s former reality show, she revealed she failed the baby bar after her first attempt in the summer of 2020.

After multiple tries, Kardashian finally passed the baby bar while continuing on with her four-year apprenticeship program, which she completed in May 2025.

The Skims mogul took the Bar Exam in July 2025, but did not pass on her first try.

The Skims founder revealed that she secretly “registered with the California State Bar to study law” one year prior. “I’ve seen some comments from people who are saying it’s my privilege or my money that got me here, but that’s not the case,” she wrote via social media at the time. “One person actually said I should ‘stay in my lane.’ I want people to understand that there is nothing that should limit your pursuit of your dreams, and the accomplishment of new goals. You can create your own lanes, just as I am. The state bar doesn’t care who you are. Everyone can take this route if you live in a state where this is allowed.”

Us Weekly confirmed that Kardashian graduated from her apprenticeship, which her family celebrated with a surprise brunch. “They are all excited and proud of her and wanted to surprise her to celebrate this accomplishment,” a source told Us. “Her law mentors are also surprising her, and she has no clue they will be there.” According to the insider, Kardashian also passed the multistate professional responsibility exam, which is a 60-question multiple-choice test that is a prerequisite to the bar exam. Once she passes the bar, she will be allowed to practice law in California.

Kardashian admitted that she used ChatGPT to help with law exams. “I use it for legal advice. So, when I am needing to know the answer to a question, I’ll take a picture and snap it and put it in there,” Kardashian admitted while completing Vanity Fair’s lie detector test. “They’re always wrong. It has made me fail tests all the time.” Kardashian said she’ll “yell at it” over her failure as well. “I will talk to it and say, ‘Hey, you’re going to make me fail. How does it make you feel? … I need to really know these answers, and I’m coming to you,’” she continued. “And it’ll say back to me, ‘This is just teaching you to trust your own instincts. You knew the answer all along.’” Later that month, Kardashian found out that she didn’t pass the bar. “Six years into this law journey, and I’m still all in until I pass the bar,” she wrote via her Instagram Stories. “No shortcuts, no giving up — just more studying and even more determination. Thank you to everyone who has supported and encouraged me along the way so far. Falling short isn’t a failure — it’s fuel. I was so close to passing the exam and that only motivates me even more.”
