Latest Shocking Celebrity News: Glitz, Glam, and Cults Combine in the Full Trailer For "The Idol"
"The Idol" is finally almost here. HBO released the first full trailer for the series, which stars Lily-Rose Depp and The Weeknd (billed as his real name, Abel Tesfaye) on May 30. The new footage comes ahead of the show's TV debut June 4. The series premiered at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this May.
Back on April 21, the Weeknd released the first track, "Double Fantasy," from the show's soundtrack. The song also features Future, and the music video uses imagery from the series. HBO also released a teaser trailer for the series on April 17 that used Britney Spears's "Gimme More," though that trailer has since been removed from YouTube.
"The Idol," which comes from "Euphoria"'s Sam Levinson and The Weeknd, also stars Dan Levy, Blackpink's Jennie Kim under the stage name Jennie Ruby Jane, Rachel Sennott, Hari Nef, Hank Azaria, and Da'Vine Joy Randolph. Back in March, Rolling Stone published an investigation into "The Idol"'s behind-the-scenes drama, in which crew members claimed that the show moved in a disturbing new direction thanks to Levinson.
But prior to that, in August 2022, Levy shared some of his excitement about joining the HBO project. "My new brand is The Gutters of Hollywood," Levy captioned a clip on his Instagram page on Aug. 21, 2022. "Thanks in advance for respecting this fun new vibe shift."
Kim has also expressed her excitement about the show. In a statement from her agency, YG Entertainment, she previously said, "I found the script very intriguing, so I wanted to be part of the series," per a July 19, 2022, report from Korean news outlet Yonhap. "I feel very excited. I'll work hard, so please watch me with affection."
