Latest Shocking Sports News: Brighton 1 Newcastle 1 – Match ratings and comments on all NUFC players

brighton v newcastle

We asked Jonathan Drape-Comyn to give us his match ratings after Brighton 1 Newcastle 1.

A game where Newcastle looked to be cruising to victory.

Perez putting Newcastle in front with a confident quality finish, after Rondon brilliantly set him up.

Only for Rafa’s team to fade away to next to nothing after the break, giving a very poor Brighton a point they didn’t deserve.

Watching from Singapore…

Dubravka – 7: Don’t think he was caught out for the Brighton goal and although he didn’t have much else to do, I don’t think he really did much wrong.

Manquillo – 7: Another decent defensive performance from Manquillo.

Certainly at the back he is stronger than Yedlin but when you need a goal, he really doesn’t offer much going forward.

Schar – 9: Along with Hayden, Schar has been my favourite player for Newcastle this season.

He was great again today and I have a feeling there may be a few clubs looking to take him away from us this summer.

Fernandez – 8: Great to see him back in the side after he was somewhat unfairly dropped following a good start to the season. Did well!

Dummett – 8: I thought he did well and made a few crucial headers/interceptions.

Ritchie – 8: Mr Consistent! Ever reliable at left wing back and it doesn’t matter what formation you are playing, he will always be one of the first names on the team sheet.

Shelvey – 7: A quiet performance but he certainly didn’t put a foot wrong. Subbed with 20 minutes to go after his first start since 3 November 2018.

Hayden – 8: Having only got into the team in December time, he would probably be my player of the season.

We were without a win until November and Hayden has been instrumental in everything good about Newcastle this season. We should be doing everything possible to persuade him to stay.

Atsu – 7:  Certainly doesn’t give you half of the threat Almiron does but he did ok and certainly put the legs in.

Perez – 8; Wasn’t on for long but what a brilliant goal!

A terrific finish as he carries on his great form. Will that be his last game for Newcastle?

Rondon – 8: Another great display in which he held the ball up well and ran himself into the ground.

Also, a wonderful assist for Perez to score the first goal. Not to make his move permanent would be two fingers up to Rafa Benitez.

SUBS:

Kenedy – 6: A poor performance and he remains a shadow of the player that we saw in a Newcastle shirt during his first few months at the club. No way will his deal be made permanent.

Ki – 6: Came on to shore up the midfield but didn’t do so. Looked weak, gave the ball away and didn’t contribute while he was on.

Muto – N/A (Not on long enough to mark): Gave away a foul in a poor position before he even touched a ball.

Would be surprised if he and Rafa Benitez were still with us come next season.
