Latest Shocking Sports News: New report: 7 Premier League bargains of the season includes Rafa Benitez signings

The Premier League continues to be the dominant force in the transfer market.

The likes of Kepa (£72m), Mahrez (£61m) and Alisson (£56m) amongst the incoming big money deals.

However, which Premier League signings have proved to be the biggest bargains?

A new report has named the seven top bargains last summer, with two Newcastle United players featuring.

Rafa Benitez had a net spend of over minus £20m and yet pulled some cracking signings out of the bag, despite Mike Ashley refusing to back him.

When Deportivo were relegated, through his contacts Rafa found out that Fabian Schar had a £3m clause allowing him to leave.

In his 18 games Newcastle have picked up 31 points, in the other 13 games only four points.

As for Salomon Rondon, he has been just as much of a key player, leading the line superbly.

In their write-up Talksport say: ‘You’d be surprised if Newcastle did not make the loan move permanent this summer.’

Sadly, a bit like the Rafa Benitez situation, everybody apart from Mike Ashley knows what needs to be and should be done. However, the NUFC owner is reportedly set to enforce a policy of only buying younger players once again, which would rule out Rondon who turns 30 in September. The kind of stupidity which would almost certainly see Rafa Benitez not at Newcastle either next season.

Fabian Schar (Newcastle) – £3million from Deportivo La Coruna

‘Schar has played a vital role in Newcastle’s recent upturn in form, scoring three times in five successive Premier League home wins. His stunning strike against Burnley won him the February goal of the month award.

‘The 27-year-old defender’s impressive displays have seen him linked with moves to Tottenham and Arsenal.

‘Both north London clubs would have to pay considerably more than the £3million Newcastle paid Deportivo to land the Switzerland international.’

Salomon Rondon (Newcastle) – £2million loan fee from West Brom

‘Newcastle paid West Brom £2million to sign Rondon on loan with Dwight Gayle heading the other way – and it is a move that has worked out perfectly for them.

‘The Venezuelan has been Rafa Benitez’s first-choice striker, netting ten goals this season, including three in his last five to help the Magpies climb the table.

‘With just one year left on Rondon’s contract, you’d be surprised if Newcastle did not make the loan move permanent this summer.’
