Latest Shocking Celebrity News: Jenna Ortega and "Wednesday" Co-Star Fred Armisen Remake "The Parent Trap" in "SNL" Skit
Jenna Ortega brought along her "Wednesday" co-star Fred Armisen for her "Saturday Night Live" debut on March 11, and somehow the duo ended up remaking "The Parent Trap." In one of the night's funniest skits, "SNL" alum Armisen plays a crew member named Raymond who is recruited to stand in for Ortega's character's body double for the day. This leads to some ad-libbing that would never fly in a real Disney movie.
"So they just split us up? Why would they do that to us? We've got to kill them," Armisen's character says upon realizing the twins' parents seperated them. Somehow, Ortega manages to keep a (mostly) straight face throughout the sketch, despite her "Wednesday" co-star's increasingly silly lines, including one about how he would let Lisa Rinna "wreck" him.
Armisen also popped up during Ortega's monologue, in which she noted that at 20, she's the youngest host of the season (Drew Barrymore, who hosted at age 7 in 1982, still holds the record for the show's youngest host ever). The "Scream VI" star also shared that she went on a tour of the studio with her parents six years ago and dreamed about one day hosting the show.
"When I was a kid, I wasn't old enough to watch "SNL" yet, so I took a tour of the studio with my parents like six years ago," she said. "And they said, 'Man, wouldn't it be amazing if you hosted one day?' It seemed impossible then, but now I'm here tonight, and my parents are here in the audience, and they get to hear me say we have a great show for you tonight!"
Earlier in the week, the "Wednesday" star filmed a hilarious skit with the Please Don't Destroy sketch comedy group, during which she tried to convince them not to make her do the viral "Wednesday" dance. However, that's ultimately what she does by the end of the video.
Following Ortega's epic performance as the titular morbid character in Netflix's hit "Wednesday" series, she reprised her 2022 "Scream" role as Tara in the sixth installment of the franchise, which hit theaters on Friday. Additionally, she's also set to star in her first rom-com, "Winter Spring Summer or Fall," which she also produced, though the film doesn't have a set release date yet.
In the meantime, there's more of Ortega's Wednesday headed our way, with Netflix already giving her show the green light for a second season. But somewhere in between then, the busy actor hopes to take some well-deserved time off. "There's a month of this year that I want to take off, and I've made it very clear that I'm going to take this month off," Ortega told Elle in her April 2023 cover story. "I'm going to travel . . . I'm just going to be hidden for a while."
Before Ortega takes her brief hiatus from Hollywood, check out all of her "SNL" skits from her hosting debut ahead.
